SMS Opt-In Process

What this program is

Desi In Videsi is a community platform for the Indian diaspora. One feature lets a host create a digital invitation for a private event (a birthday, a housewarming, a wedding function) and invite guests the host personally knows. SMS here is strictly one-to-one, host-initiated event invitations and RSVP reminders — it is not marketing, promotional, or bulk messaging.

How a guest opts in — step by step

1. A host creates an invitation and adds guests they know, by name. Each guest gets a unique, unguessable RSVP web link.
2. The host shares that link with the guest manually and personally — through WhatsApp, email, copy-link, or their own messaging app. Desi In Videsi does not send any text at this stage.
3. The guest opens their link and sees the event’s RSVP page. There, below the contact fields, is an optional, un-checked SMS consent checkbox.
4. If — and only if — the guest ticks that box themselves and submits the form with their phone number, consent is recorded.
5. Only after that recorded opt-in may Desi In Videsi send that guest SMS about that event (the invitation link and reminders). A guest who does not tick the box receives no SMS.

The exact consent checkbox

This is the opt-in control on the RSVP page. It is unchecked by default; the guest must check it.

What we record at opt-in

• The guest’s phone number.
• The date and time of consent.
• The consent source (the web RSVP page).
• The exact version of the consent wording shown.
• The applicable messaging campaign (event invitations & reminders).

SMS consent is stored separately from any other consent and is never bought, sold, or shared for anyone else’s marketing.

What we never do

• We never send a text to someone who has not opted in on this page.
• We never send an initial “please opt in” text to a number that has not already opted in.
• We never add a number to messaging on a host’s say-so alone — the guest’s own web opt-in is required.

Message frequency varies by event. Message and data rates may apply. Desi In Videsi does not charge for the messages.
